About

-The endocannabinoid system has been called (by Raphael Mechoulam) the super computer that regulates homeostasis in the human body, receptors are found throughout the brain and every major organ.

-all animal species, except insects, have an endogenous (made within the body) cannabinoid system. We make our own cannabinoids similar in structure to those produced by the cannabis plant. Therefore, our bodies must have receptors with which cannabinoids interact.

-the endocannabinoid system is involved with regulation of pain, appetite, memory, blood pressure, bone growth, digestion, mood and movement. Its main goal is maintaining homeostasis.

-Its mechanism of action is immensely intense.

-Neurotransmitters known to be affected by cannabinoids include dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, glutamate, acetylcholine and GABA. As a result, the endocannabinoid system can regulate pain, inflammation, sensations, memory, appetite, mood, energy levels, motor control.
